Here's my hotel. I park in an out-of-the-way location and sleep in the Subaru. I need to say that this car is great. It meandered up here happily enough (after I installed a new oil pump) getting great mileage. I slept in it along with all my gear then proceeded to run off the unmarked, unplowed, freshly snowed-upon road while heading to the slopes on Saturday morning. No problem, a bit of digging and 4wd pulled me right out. It's got a comfy ride, great traction and is even surprisingly entertaining in the twisty bits. It's not a power demon up here above 9000', but you can't have everything. Not bad for a car with 280,000 km on it. It's no wonder that every second car in Colorado is a Subaru.

So, what was the skiing like? This photo gives you an idea of Saturday. Snow snow snow snow. The other photos were taken on Sunday, a day that started off cold and perfectly clear. It then became warm and perfectly clear. My legs were so tired from snowboarding through the fresh powder that I gave up after only 6 hours or so on Sunday. I was one of the first on the lift. The views from up top are astounding and everything was particularly pretty with the fresh snow, but I didn't have the camera. Next time!
